It only takes 10 minutes by bus to get to the extreme western end of the island, called "Limmo", from the Latin Limen = boundary. The headland is called "Karena", from the Greek word, which means "headland-cape". The Lido del Faro is only a short walk from the bus stop.
On this headland, a hundred years ago, was built the "Lighthouse" which is considered the second most powerful one in Italy, after Genova.
It is also the departure or arrival point of a very enjoyable walk along the north-western coast of the island, known as "The Walk of the Fortifications" because it passes through the ruins of the fortifications built by the French in1808 and which have been recently restored.
